Olympics - good & bad

Bad:

- announcers for the gymnastics - Tim Daggett or whatever his name is may be the worst sports commentary guy on TV - and think about some of his rivals (Chris Collingsworth anyone)...

- Announcers limited vocabulary - especially pertaining to Phelps. It's like a contest to see how many people can use "amazing", "ridiculous", "he's a machine"; in one 45 second performance. I hope when he gets tapes of these events the audio is turned off. UGH...

- staying up til 1 am every night.. How did I become hooked on the Olympics - seriously - its mostly swimming and gymnastics - but I do question this bandwagon. Must. Get. Off. Now.

- Commercials - overall they are uninspired and have bad music. Where are all the really good commercials for the Olympics? (on a side note - how many endorsement deals will Phelps have and what's the over/under on when he appears on a Wheaties box...)

Good:
- Phelps - really, I hate to route for the clear favorite - but there is just something about him...

- Okay - I admit it - Wingspan 6'7'; Feet size 14' how hung do you think this guy is?

- Bad sportsmanship that is not U.S. - I mean with all the doping scandals of past and everything else - its nice to see some other country receive the unsportsmanlike story of the summer Olympics. Never fear though track and field is not over - time for a doping scandal yet!

Enough for now. Oh - quick music update - The Duke and the Duchess new LP = very very very good

two-way sidewalks

There seems to be an epidemic in DC. LArge herds of people who seem completely unphased by the simple fact that people in this city walk both up and down the streets here. I don't think this is unique to DC - but apparently the people who visit here have no idea...

So, here is what I propose. When you see these large groups of people, please take one (or more) of the following:
1 - As the herd is walking to you; stand with your arms folded and refuse to move either way. (bonus points if you throw an elbow)

2 - Yell, the sidewalk is two ways as you are walking through the horde.

3 - Pull their hair as they walk by. Now, I have never tried this but I have always wanted to... Always.

These three simple steps are just the beginning.

more Ad rants

Visa's Olympic ad campaign is "Go World" - Now other than the tagline - I like the ads - the one I just saw was about Phelps not being a dolphin or having fins - good ad - but Go World? Talk about being everything to everyone...

O'm always surprised by local ads and how annoying they are. The repitition of the same phrase over and over always annoys me - but there are three particular ads that are annoyingly effective

John C Flood - The Original
Head On - Apply directly to the forehead - okay this isn't a local ad - but... the thing about this one that pisses me off - its ALWAYS the sponsor for the local on the 8's on the weather channel - which means its in my head all day long...

Eastern Moters - yea - I hate this ad. Hate hate hate.. But damn if its not effective - just typing it makes me have that stupid song in my head.
