Chicken for Breakfast

Yup, McDonald's has finally done what I thought was impossible - they invented yet another way to eat chicken. This new ad campaign touts "chicken for Breakfast"

This concerns me for several reasons:
- It's just gross.
- we have all sorts of breakfast meats to choose from: bacon, ham, scrapple (yup) Pork Roll (Yes on that one too)... The pig owns breakfast. Not the chicken!

- we are overwhelmed with chicken options. Why do we need more chicken?

- Does this mean more trucks - they are very popular on the route to the beach and it's already annoying and gross - and it's creeps Mo out...

- We have added another thing for the lovely McDonald's staff to remember. Now, I enjoy a Sausage Egg McMuffin every now and again. They are especially good on the way home from the Beach at 7 am on Monday morning...However, the experiences that I have had at these McD's are not good. colosal meltdowns have happened while the nice folks who work there mess up basic orders. Some of the high point - running out of ice, taking over 15 minutes to take my order - not having any ice and not being willing to go and get ice for the machine. I fear that adding chicken at breakfast is going to further delay the thought of fast food.

random subway ads

So I had to take the metro today to Old Town from Downtown. The blue line during rush hour provides all sorts of commentary opportunities... All Sorts

Here's the thing about the metro. I think I'm a little sheltered by the ads displayed on the red line - a mostly DC line. Whomever places the ads on the orange and blue is much more focused on a different demographic. Some ads that trouble me:

-
EurAupair - this is an ad campaign for international au pair's. There are a lot of odd things about this campaign. But the oddest is the pictures of the little kids with the Au Pair's. The kids and the Au Pairs look alike. And it's kind o creepy. Why would the au pair have to have the same color, style hair and eyes.. Wouldn't this campaign creep out the parents? It creeps me out?

"Life is Beautiful" United Poultry Campaigns - these are a series of ads with a young man or woman petting a chicken - with a tag line to go Vegan. It gets weirder. You go to the web site ( I refuse to promote it here - so look it up) and there are a series of off links such as "stick up for a chicken" :Hens will no longer be starved but they will still suffer" Really - 1) why is your ad campaign on the metro? 2) why does it include people petting chickens? 3) what sort of focus group did you use to come up with this campaign?

TouchBook - LEGALLY we can't say the military helped us build this. I can't even begin on these. Huge billboard size ads at the Pentagon metro for a "Rugged" laptop that was apparently built on military specifications however the military won't let them advertise this fact... However, if they are trying to advertise to the military and the military is already using these computers... why are the ads at the Pentagon. Are they trying to get other industries to use the TouchBook? I'm just confused all together on this one...

Things you don't want to hear a first date say

But - yet things that I heard on Saturday Night...

Date: well, I work two days as on the hill and three days at "fill in republican think tank here"
Date: ... as an intern
Me: OH

Date: ..Well, tomorrow is my birthday
Me: Wow - Happy Birthday. How old are you going to be
Date: 25

Date: I'm only interning while I look for a job with some federal agencies
Me: Oh - that's cool - what agencies
Date: well, I can't say - they are all different and there budget's aren't transparent
(note on this one - PUHLEEAAASSSEE)

So, for those who are curious.
- No, I will not be going on a second date.
- No, I didn't have breakfast in a dining hall.
- Yes, there is some merit to having Mo card future dates to ensure age minimums.
- Yes, I have had about 10 bad dates in a row....

The Good & Bad about Saturday

Good: Party Shuffle on ITunes - it played a bunch of stuff I forgot I loved - and I LOVE that... Some of those forgotten tunes:
Call to Love - Crooked Fingers
Buttercup - Brad
Can I stay - Ray Lamontagne
I'll be You - The Replacements

Bad: Party shuffle finding gems such as "Gettin Jiggy with it";"Cuts you up" - Peter Murphy, and other bad bad songs (why do I own these?)

Good: Finding white pants that look good on
Bad: it's too icky out to wear them tonight

Good: Having no problem with renting a car today
Bad: Having to park said rental car in DuPont

Good: Dressing for a Saturday night date
Bad: Not being at all excited about date (sad that the most exciting part is deciding which shirt to wear tonight...)

Just Bad: Flyer's loss to Pens last night
Worse: Text messages from Pens fans
Worst: Voice mails from said fans

I'm lying on the bathroom floor
I'm hot, I'm cold, I miss you more
I can't lie and I can't dream
I can't be silent, but I can scream

You never felt the same way
I never said what I wanted to say
You never cried and you never sang
You never loved me, and I always came

I'm dreading it
The happiness; the commitment
I'm sad about it
The trust; and your good will

Please don't make me be nice
or god forbid defend you
Please don't make me aware
I'd prefer to offend you

I can't. and you can keep a distance
I want to
But I have to show the resistance

I'm still lying on the bathroom floor
I still want you more now then I did before
I'm still crying; I'm still sad
Your still fine and still making me mad
